
A key plays the role of a critical element in our daily lives, there’s not much that isn’t opened with a key. Keys protect us from crime and theft. It stands to reason that a key would get a lot of daily build of dirt and grime.
So, how do you clean your keys?
From its daily usage keys do get quite dirty and grimy from time to time. You can wipe down the keys with a tissue but there are other more effective and efficient ways to get the job done. Here are a few ways to clean your keys.
Soap and Warm Water
Just think of all dirt and germs your key has accumulated from all those months and years of usage. A straightforward way to get the cleaning process started is to use soap along with hot water. Soak the key in hot water. Apply cleanser to key and use a sponge to wash off all of the corresponding nastiness.
Note: Do not wash electronic keys in this manner.
Vinegar Solution
If your key is rusty, you can use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar for a quick and effective way to get the job done.
- Place the key in a small bowl
- Add baking soda to cover up the rusty key, approximately two tablespoons.
- Add one table of spoon of vinegar
- After a few minutes of waiting add some vinegar (should cover the whole key)
- Let it soak for 24 hours
- Wash and rinse off the key
Get Creative
Using toothpaste is a quick and easy way to clean up your dirty keys. Take a wet toothbrush or a cotton swab and scrub of all the dirt off of the key. Wash and dry once cleaned.
